DCOlder 8 GB SOM: early boot panic after QLI 2.0 prelim to BSP 1.2 rollback
Added by David Cuccia 6 days ago
Hi Greg,
We're returning our older, memory-speed-limited 8 GB MitySOM-QC6490
(serial B37C59DB) from the earlier QLI 2.0 preliminary build to BSP 1.x.
Our newer 4 GB SOM was working on the BSP 1.2-based image at our last check
and has been left untouched.
We first programmed the original BSP 1.1 vendor CDT using its own loader
and CDT XML/patch. The full 128 KiB readback exactly matches our pre-QLI2
backup. We then programmed our BSP 1.2-based Y3 image using its distinct
loader and six normal rawprogram/patch XMLs; QDL returned success.
This is not an untouched stock-image reproduction: it uses the stock CL
DTB plus four custom driver modules. No modules are listed as loaded at
the crash.
The October 6 UART trace confirms the expected CL model and kernel
6.6.90-qli-1.5-ver.1.1-04509-gc4b8666c9a55-dirty, but it panics about
1.4 seconds into Linux:
Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address ffffffdccf3d26c0 FSC = 0x06: level 2 translation fault Workqueue: events_unbound deferred_probe_work_func pc : __call_rcu_nocb_wake+0x204/0x288 Call trace: ... debugfs_remove -> opp_debug_unregister -> _add_opp_table_indexed -> dev_pm_opp_of_cpumask_add_table -> dt_cpufreq_probe Kernel panic - not syncing: Oops: Fatal exception
The matching vmlinux places the fatal read in RCU tracing during OPP
cleanup, so we aren't treating this as proof of bad frequency tables.
Y3's CPU bindings/OPP entries match the BSP 1.1 package reference.
The normal XML leaves ddr_a/ddr_b untouched, and UART reports
DDR: Start of DDR Training Restore.
Is there a recommended BSP 1.x rollback bundle/procedure for this older
module, particularly whether retained DDR training needs invalidating
when returning from the preliminary 2.0 firmware? We haven't erased it
or made further speculative firmware changes. Happy to provide the full
UART trace if useful.
Thanks,
David

Hi David,
BSP 1.2 was a minor update with changes specifically for the latest revision of the MitySOM-QC (e.g. removing the DDR speed restriction required for the rev1 SOM to not lock up). Please try rolling back to BSP 1.1 on your 8GB rev1 SOM.
There is a cdt directory in the BSP 1.1 release zip with a README detailing how to program the CDT (note that programming the CDT triggers a DDR training on next boot). After programming the CDT you should be able to program the BSP 1.1 qcom-multimedia-image and boot without issue.
If this does not work please provide a full Debug Console output that captures CDT programming, qcom-multimedia-image and the boot attempt after programming.
Thanks,
Greg
